With sustainability and conservation as core principles of the community development, the Ave Maria Utility Company boasts state-of-the-art water treatment. The 1.67 million-gallon-per-day plant uses membrane softening to treat water drawn from three wells. The zero-discharge facility treats wastewater with an eco-friendly activated sludge process, followed by filtration and high level disinfection. The end result is beneficial reuse for irrigation in the community. The water treatment facility won the Design-Build Institute of America’s “Project of the Year” in the New York Tri-State Region and a National Merit Award.
