The Barron Collier Companies remains deeply invested in one of its founder’s early business ventures – agriculture. Encompassing citrus, vegetable farming, packing and brokering, cattle ranching and land leasing, the company’s agricultural holdings span nearly 80,000 acres. Six divisions comprise the agricultural operation, which is based in Immokalee in rural Collier County:
THE IMMOKALEE RANCH
The Immokalee Ranch, which nurtures a cow-calf operation, boasts a herd of 4,500 Brahman mix cattle on 65,000 acres. The Immokalee Ranch is a joint venture with Collier Enterprises.
SILVER STRAND CITRUS
Totaling approximately 11,000 acres, Silver Strand Citrus annually produces more than four million boxes of citrus – Valencia, Early/Mids, Ruby Red Grapefruit and Murcotts – for juice processing and the fresh market. Approximately one-half of the acreage is mechanically harvested using canopy shaker technology.
SILVER STRAND SOD
Silver Strand Sod (www.SilverStrandSodFarm.com) grows Floratam, Seville, Captiva and Empire Zoysia for landscaping. At peak production, the operation has produced over 30 million sq. ft. of sod, or enough grass to cover 30,000 average size lawns.
SILVER STRAND TREE FARM
Silver Strand Tree Farm (www.SilverStrandTreeFarm.com) is a landscape ornamental nursery that predominantly grows Queen, Washingtonia, Roebelenii and Phoenix palms. It is a joint venture with Ave Maria Development.
